The Samoa government owned Polynesian Airlines says it may scrap its Dash-8 aircraft in favour of another plane that's cheaper to operate.

Chief Executive Officer Taua Fatu Tielu told the Samoa observer that the immediate disadvantage is competing with rival South Pacific Express which has a 30-seater aircraft.

A decision is several months away.
