A review of RAMSI agreed to by Pacific leaders

9:06 pm on 24 October 2006

Pacific leaders have agreed to review the operations of the regional assistance mission to Solomon Islands.

This was a key demand of the Melanesian group of countries going into the Forum summit meeting in Nadi.

Our reporter in Nadi, Linda Skates, says the Forum communique has just been issued and a review is a key part of this.

"There's no news on who is going to take part in that or how soon it will be completed. Another of the key issues concerns labour mobility and New Zealand is to announce a seasonal worker scheme, but the details are yet to be revealed. And John Howard, the Australian prime minister is setting up technical colleges in Fiji and elsewhere. Another matter that is resolved is that Greg Urwin has been confirmed as secretary general for a second term."
