A court in Paris is expected to make a final judgement next month on whether to issue an injunction that would halt the New Caledonian Goro Nickel project.

A New Caledonian Kanak activist group and unionists in New Caledonia have called for the injunction in Paris to stop the project, saying it is illegal and will cause serious pollution.

The New Caledonian delegation had a court hearing yesterday and it was told a decision will be announced on November the 14th.

Goro Nickel's deputy general manager, Jeff Zweig, told Bloomberg news agency that the application for an injunction is without merit and that his company has the construction permits and the authorisation to proceed.
