A programme aimed at increasing the number of minorities in scientific, mathematics, engineering and technological professions has been officially launched in Honolulu.

The Islands Opportunity Alliance is a Pacific wide initiative that has received a 1 point 7 million US dollar grant from the National Science Foundation to meet its goals over the next five years.

The Alliance is spearheaded by the University of Hawai'i-Hilo, and its project manager,

Dr Dan Brown, says those who take advantage of the Alliance will be poised for success in today's and tomorrow's changing dynamics.

Dr Brown says the programme starts on Wednesday and details will be decided through collaborative actions by all the schools in the Alliance.
