Fiji's prime minister is insisting that he will not withdraw any of the contentious bills despite pressure from the military to do so or face the removal of his government..

Laisenia Qarase has told Radio Legend that he is concerned that the military is demanding the withdrawal of the Reconciliation and Unity Bill and the Qoliqoli Bill.

Mr Qarase says it is worrying that the military is even considering going to President Iloilo to ask him to order the government to withdraw the proposed legislation.

He says the people of Fiji elected the government to make laws through the supreme authority of parliament.

Mr Qarase says if the military decides to do otherwise, that would go against the constitution and against the laws of the land.
