Samoa is today conducting its general census with 1,300 surveyors out in the villages throughout the country to count every person in each household.

The census is held every five years and this is the second this millennium since the 2001 census where the country's population was recorded at more than 170,000 people.

The census is divided into four categories from Apia urban area to the rest of Upolu Main Island, the Apia west area and Savai'i Island.

The process will take six days.
