Samoa government to amend electoral act

4:43 am on 1 November 2006

Samoa's Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says his government will be making amendments to the Electoral Act and introducing a series of changes in order to prevent discrepancies and corrupt practices arising in future elections.

The prime minister's comments follow a report from a Commission of Inquiry appointed in June to review the act and examine complaints of corrupt practices during this year's election.

The prime minister says the report will be discussed in cabinet before it will be tabled and debated in parliament.
