The Guam Election Commission intends to count votes cast on Election Day for the drinking-age initiative despite a court decision to remove the initiative from the ballot.
The Pacific Daily News reports that the commission has decided to appeal Superior Court of Guam Judge Arthur Barcinas' decision to remove Proposal A, on the drinking-age question, from the ballot.
Judge Barcinas gave the commission two options: to either remove Proposal A from the ballot or not certify the Proposal A election results.
But the commission's legal counsel Cesar Cabot says votes on the measure, which polls whether the drinking age should be increased from 18 to 21, will be counted just in case an appeal succeeds.
He noted that absentee voting had already started at the time of Barcinas' decision.
