The police commissioner in Fiji, Andrew Hughes, is seeking a one on one meeting with the military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
Mr Hughes says the police investigation over whether the commander made seditious remarks is continuing.
He says to determine that, they will be relying heavily on legal advice, and the director of public prosecutions will decide whether there is a prima facie case to be made.
But, Mr Hughes says he would like to talk to the commander before any approach is made by police to interview him.
"I've made it clear to my people I would like the opportunity just to have a one on one because there's a whole heap of other things we've got to work out. Once all that's done, then it will be our intention, to invite"
him for an interview, which is usual practise, you should be aware, with any police investigation.
Mr Hughes says the police have an obligation to place the allegations to the person so they have the right to reply.
