Fiji's vice president has called on people to have faith in the military as attempts are made to resolve its impasse with the Qarase government.

The Fijilive news website reports that Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi has also called for support for the Great Council of Chiefs as it convenes in a special sitting on Thursday to find a solution to the current impasse.

Ratu Joni says just as the military has a right in Fiji's affairs, so does the Great Council of Chiefs.

He says it is the highest advisory body on Fijian opinion and given the composition of Fiji's population and the Great Council's role as an institution for conflict resolution, it is only appropriate that it should be consulted.

Speaking at Remembrance Day commemorations in Suva, Ratu Joni said those who died gave their lives for a better tomorrow.

He stressed that people must have faith in the capacity and development in the government and the military to honor their sacrifice.
