New head of Solomons Assistance Mission to take over on Thursday

The new head of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Island, Australian diplomat Tim George will officially take up the position on Thursday this week as the incumbent James Batley steps aside.

Mr Batley says his successor's immediate task is to see the Forum Leader's Communiqué on the quarterly review of the Regional Assistance Mission gets implemented and also to engage in more frequent high level consultation with the Solomon Islands Government.

Mr Batley leaves Honiara to take up a new posting in Canberra on Thursday after leading RAMSI for more than 2-years.
