A Samoan woman MP and associate justice minister, Safuneitu'uga Pa'aga Neri, has been appointed as new minister of telecommunications and broadcasting.

Her appointment was announced by the prime minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, during today's parliamentary session.

Safuneitu'uga will take over the portfolios from Mulitalo Siafausa Vui, who was last month found guilty of bribery and treating in an election court ruling.

Safuneitu'uga is the third woman MP to have been appointed to cabinet.
