Fiji police expect to complete Bainimarama investigation soon

The police in Fiji say they have almost completed their investigation into seditious statements allegedly made by armed forces commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

The Director of the Police's Criminal Investigation Department, Josaia Rasiga, says he's investigating a number of claims against the commander including sedition, disobedience of lawful orders, and unlawful removal of a shipment of ammunition for Suva wharf.

Mr Rasiga described some of the investigations as being on the verge of completion, but didn't know exactly when they'd be wrapped up.

"I will in the near future. I cannot say now exactly how many days from now. But within the not-too-distant future."

Once investigations are complete, Mr Rasiga says a file will be sent to Fiji's Director of Public Prosecutions who will decide whether Commander Bainimarama can be prosecuted.
