Fiji's military commander has spoken of a clean up of the Qarase government next month.

Fiji TV reports that Commodore Bainimarama made his comments to soldiers in the west.

Asked what this meant, Commodore Bainimarama would only say that if the government didn't agree to the military's requests, they had alternative plans.

He denied suggestions there would be a coup, adding that it would be clean-up campaign.

He said the military would let the nation know of its intentions well in advance.

Commodore Bainimarama also said the military would not be meeting with the mediation committee set up by the Great Council of Chiefs to solve the impasse between the government and the military.
