PNG lagging in pilot training

There are calls for the Papua New Guinea government to train more local helicopter pilots.

Of the 120 helicopter pilots in the country, only 10 were nationals and most are now reaching retirement age.

The Post Courier newspaper reports Major John Imaka of the Papua New Guinean Defence Force's Air Wing, as saying this was a major concern.

He says more local pilots needed to be trained, as the industry raised up to 177 million US dollars in revenue but more than 80 percent of this money was being sent overseas.
