Allegations that an American Samoan police captain may have exerted undue influence in a rape case have led to the High Court dismissing charges against 19 year old Tamapolu Filipo who has been held in prison since August on three charges of rape.

The territory's Chief Justice granted a government motion to dismiss the case after hearing claims that police captain, Tina Simanu, of the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Bureau, questioned the victim and used force to persuade her to make a statement implicating Tamapolu.
