7:56 am on 23 November 2006

The All Black captain Richie McCaw's peers have voted him the word's best player.

The International Rugby Players' Association player of the year led New Zealand to the Tri-Nations title and has been in outstanding form in his side's unbeaten autumn international campaign.

Jason Eaton was named newcomer of the year, while New Zealand won the award for team of the year.

McCaw says it's special to be acknowledged by your peers.

He says the All Blacks have had a good season and his team mates are part of the award too.

The Awards are decided by players from the national squads of France, Ireland, Wales, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa .
