Pacific football star lends support to OFC champions league

The launch of the 2007 Oceania Football Confederation Champions League in Auckland will be supported by one of the Pacific's most prolific stars.

French International Christian Karembeu arrives in Auckland for next weeks launch.

Karembeu was born in New Caledonia and won the OFC Player of the Year Award in 1995 and 1998.

He also won the 1998 FIFA World Cup, 2000 UEFA European Championship and 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup with France.

Karembeu also won the UEFA Champions league twice with Real Madrid.

Pacific countries are also well representated with Tahiti, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Fiji taking part.

In the opening games Tahiti and Fiji will play the two New Zealand sides, while Solomons face New Caledonia.
