Hospital strike in French Polynesia continues

10:57 am on 23 November 2006

A strike launched by medical staff at French Polynesia's public hospital at the start of this week is continuing.

More than 100 doctors have joined the action which was called to improve their standing and to force the implementation of all points of their agreements.

The strike has not affected emergencies.

This comes amid dissatisfaction by private doctors who reacted to policy statements by President Oscar Temaru.

The policy issues prompted the health minister, Pia Hiro, to resign earlier this month.
