Fiji police have charged five people over the protest burning of an effigy of the Fiji Labour Party cabinet minister, Krishna Datt, last week.
The burning took place in Mr Datt's Nasinu parliamentary constituency after he told parliament he would support the government's 2007 Budget.
Radio Legend says the five are a Labour Party senator, a senior councillor from the Labour-controlled Nasinu Town Council and three employees of the council.
The five have been charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, organizing a meeting without a permit and causing a disturbance in a public place.
They have been bailed appear in the Nasinu magistrate's court next Thursday.
Meanwhile, Fiji's commissioner central, Inoke Devo, says in granting future permits for political gatherings any sort, he would issue strict instructions not to burn effigies.
Mr Devo says any effort to prejudice peace and order at any future gatherings will not be tolerated.
