A ceremony to mark the stat of work on new courts in Solomon Islands has heard the Chief Justice, Sir Albert Palmer, speak of how important it is for laws to be seen, felt and heard in any community.
He said the country had already experienced the negative consequences of justice not being seen to be done.
Sir Albert said the judiciary welcomed the building project as it would allow them to deal with more of the cases and respond to the desire for swift justice.
The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation reports that he said the RAMSI-funded project would ensure delays in listing and hearing trials were reduced, ensuring confidence and security in the community.
Sir Albert says the High Court has been transformed in recent years - with judges, registry staff, an expanded law library, funding for staff training, and interpreting services.
The Special Coordinator for the Regional Assistance MIssion, Timothy George, says RAMSI looks forward to working with the government on further infrastructure projects for the country's justice sector in the provinces.
