ASIO wins right to appeal against court decision

The Australian Security Intelligence Agency, ASIO, has won the right to appeal a court decision allowing two Iraqi refugees to learn why they have been deemed security risks.

Mohammed Sagar and Muhammad Faisal were taken to processing centres on Nauru five years ago and although they have been declared refugees, the Australian security agency says they are national security risks.

Earlier this month, their lawyer won the right to see the documents, which show on what grounds they are deemed to be risks, but this is now being challenged.

The Federal Court in Melbourne has granted leave of appeal at a date yet to be set.
