The Solomon Islands Government is working on constructing two more international airports in the country to bolster the tourism industry.

The Permanent Secretary of the Department of Aviation, Nairie Alamu, says plans for this latest development are contained in the department's 2007-2010 corporate plan.

She indicated that the eastern Solomon's international airport will be built in Temotu province.

The other international aiport, in the west, will be at either Munda or Balalae.

The department is also working towards a major upgrading of all government-owned domestic airports in the country.

Ms Alamu says there are 20 domestic airports in the country which have not been upgraded in the last 20 years.
