New Zealand's prime minister issues warnings to Fiji's military

8:09 am on 5 December 2006

The Prime Minister Helen Clark has issued warnings on the consequences of any coup in Fiji for the county's military commander and anyone else involved.

She says the head of the military, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, was put on "full notice" of the measures New Zealand would take, when he met the foreign affairs minister Winston Peters recently.

Miss Clark says New Zealand's military assistance programme and aid programmes to Fiji would be frozen.

And she says anyone involved in a coup would not be able to come to New Zealand.
