Solomon Islands' government says funds will go next year to development budget

The Solomon Islands government says it will contribute a substantial amount of funds next year towards its development budget.

Previously the bulk of funding for the development budget has been borne by aid donors.

But Prime minister Manasseh Sogavare says that with improved revenue collection and better management of public funds, the government will be able to finance its development budget.

Mr Sogavare says the actual amount will be clearer as and when all the figures are brought before caucus and Cabinet for approval.

The SIBC reports the PM saying the budget is expected to be tabled in Parliament in January.
