Solomon Islands' auditor general says advisors under RAMSI have made contributions

Solomon Islands auditor general, Floyd Fatai, says advisors provided under the Regional Assistance Mission or RAMSI have made significant contributions to office investigations.

He says since five expatriate advisors started work there, 11 reports have been tabled before parliament after more than 20 years of the office being non productive and producing nil reports.

Mr Fatai says some officials within government have criticised the number of expatriate workers in the auditor general's office, saying that those jobs should go to locals.

But he says people who are complaining obviously have something to hide and could be involved in some corrupt or fraudulent activity within government.

"They might get caught, so that's why they're trying to come up with excuses to displace my expat staff. But as far as I'm concerned, the wider community are coming out, and every time they see me, they always congratulate me and the office for doing a very good job."
