Fiji's caretaker prime minister, Dr Jona Senilagakali, says he is prepared to go to jail, should the overthrow of the elected government fail.
Dr Senilagakali, who was appointed by the military commander last night, says the ousted prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, led the country down the wrong path with its racial policies.
He concedes that the coup was illegal - but told Radio Legend it is aimed at cleaning up serious corruption.
Speaking on Radio Legend Dr Senilagakali also says he won't allow the sacked police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, to return from Australia
"If I end up in prison because I have fought for a just cause in life, I will be happy for that - I will not resist. But let me tell you this... when Andrww Hughes first came, I kept telling the army: keep an eye on this man, because he's going to promote the Australian foreign policy. And it happened.. it has happened."
