No weather in Samoa following breakdown

12:50 pm on 8 December 2006

Local radio and television stations in Samoa are unable to provide daily weather reports following a breakdown of vital communication technologies at the country's Meteorology division.

The chief meteorologist, Ausetalia Titimaea, says the weather communication system, which broke down on Monday, is being changed to install a wireless system making it easier for the weather forecasters to predict any changes in the weather.

The Meteorology office at Mulinu'u is hoping the installation will be completed soon.

The weather reports are relied upon by the public for information, particularly during the current wet weather and cyclone season.
