There are demands for compensation from the public on American Samoa's main island of Tutuila, after residents were told they couldn't drink the tap water.
The American Samoa Power Authority, which supplies the water, said heavy rains at the end of last week had led to faecal contamination of supplies and problems with the chlorination plant meant the water was unsafe.
But as our correspondent in Pago Pago, Monica Miller, explains, residents want a cut in their bills as they are having to use power or fuel to boil the water or buy it.
"I know I've talked to families who are having to get bottled water from the stores and this is a cost they weren't planning for."
