Solomon Islands deputy prime minister resigns

9:52 am on 20 December 2006

The Solomon Islands Deputy Prime Minister, Job Duddley Tausinga, has resigned from his post and his position as Minister for Forests, Environment and Conservation.

He has not given any reasons for the decision at this time.

Mr Tausinga told SIBC that in addition to resigning from his official portfolios, he had also decided to leave the Grand Coalition for Change Government.

Mr Tausinga, who's one of the country's longest serving politicians, says he's prepared to continue as an MP but not in the government camp.
