Amercan Samoa's Director of Education resigns

American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono has announced that he has accepted the resignation of Education director Malaetele Dr. Lui Tuitele.

Togiola says that after several meetings with Tuitele regarding the situation at the Department of Education, he has received a letter of resignation from the director.

Tuitele's resignation comes two months after he was placed on an excused leave of absence by the Governor, while a probe into allegations of personnel malfeasance and other issues within the DOE, were investigated by the offices of the Governor and Attorney General.

Longtime DOE official Dr. Claire Poumele remains acting director.
