The residents of Suva will be living with military checkpoints around the Fiji capital into the New Year.

The military has said it will review the need to keep the checkpoints, manned by armed soliders, every few days.

But the military spokesman, Major Neumi Leweni, says they will still be a feature moving into 2007:

"We will still maintain them up until end of this year, so when we do get them, and as you know New Year is usually a very very busy time with a lot of people moving about so it will still be there intlo the New Year"

Major Leweni says they are still working on setting up an interim administration and more progress may be announced next week.
