The secretary for the Solomon Islands Prime Minister and cabinet John Roughan, says a recruitment notice for a new Police Commissioner has already been distributed.
This follows the sacking of Australian Shane Castles whose been the Solomon Islands Police Commissioner for over a year, and was to return to duty at the end of January.
However, Mr Roughan has confirmed that Mr Castles has been asked not to return, and the search for a new Commissioner is underway.
He says the government has already put out a recruitment notice locally and internationally.
"It's certainly local any police officer in the Solomon Islands police constabulary which some of them are there plus overseas candidatures would be recognised as well, so we're not limiting ourselves either to the local or to the overseas, including both."
