Travellers reminded not to carry fireworks on commercial airlines

With New Year celebrations just around the corner, the United States Transportation Security Administration or TSA is reminding travellers that they could receive heavy fines if caught taking fireworks onboard commercial airlines.

TSA's American Samoa spokesperson, Michael Kvalvik, says its against federal law to take or attempt to smuggle fireworks onboard a commercial aircraft.

He says any person carrying fireworks onto an aircraft or attempting to ship them illegally face fines of over 27-thousand US dollars per violation, or criminal prosecution that carry penalties of 250-thousand dollars and five years in prison.
