The Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, has stepped up his criticism of the Solomon Islands government.
He says a decision to declare the Police Commissioner persona non grata shows the appalling levels of governance in the country.
The Commissioner, Shane Castles, is currently on extended leave in his native Australia.
Mr Downer says officials will meet the Solomon Islands government to discuss the matter in the next few days.
"All the Solomon Islands police have been trying to do is uphold the law. All the government has been trying to do is cicumvent the law. The Solomon Islands' government has behaved disgracefully"
