7:38 pm on 9 January 2007

The chairman of the Guadalcanal province is urging the Solomon Islands government to speed up the reconciliation programme for the province.

The Solomon Star reports that a total of about 7.5 million US dollars will be needed for the reconciliation programme to be successful.

The chairman of the province, Stephen Panga, says if reconciliation is in place, the government won't have difficulties negotiating demands with Guadalcanal.

Mr Panga says he's urging the government to make this issue one of its top priorities.
