The Cook Islands Under 19 rugby union side is off to the world Rugby Cup in Dublin Ireland in April.

This follows their close win in the Cup qualifying match against Papua New Guinea in Brisbane.

PNG were leading 21-15 twenty minutes before fulltime, but Terua Tuisovivi touched down and converted by Terence Glassie to give the Cook Islands a 22-21 win and take them to Dublin.

The Cook Islands Rugby Union Chief Executive Ben Koteka says it's history in the making with the country taking part in their first ever Under 19 World Cup tournament.

"Correct um yeah, this will be the first time and everyone is looking foward to it , like I said we had attended previous tournaments in Fiji and Samoa, at this stage we haven't fared too well, and to get a result like this after years of hard work is great."
