Fiji's military regime to meet with overseas missions over sanctions

Fiji's interim administration plans to hold talks with a number of diplomatic missions over the next day or so to discuss the travel and trade sanctions that have been imposed on Suva since the Qarase government was ousted.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama, who is now the interim prime minister, says he'll consider retaliating if New Zealand and Australia continue to ignore and frustrate his government.

But the military spokesman, Major Neumi Leweni, says the talks will come first:

"The government is going to have discussions with the embassies and when the out comes of those meetings are revealed we will be able to inform you of what other actions are there."
