The Fast Food chain giant McDonalds' American Samoa lease at Utulei Beach Park has been cancelled by mutual agreement.

A statement issued by Governor Togiola Tulafono and McDonalds said both parties agreed that the cancellation of the lease was in their best interest and will allow the government to resolve issues involving the United States National Parks Service.

McDonalds had proposed to build a two story restaurant at Utulei beach.

However the National Park Service objected saying that the beach had been reserved for recreational use.

There was widespread opposition to having a McDonald's restaurant at Utulei Beach.
