Fiji's military has reduced the operations of many of the checkpoints around Suva.
With the start of the school year it was decided that there would be no barricades across the road during the day to help ease traffic buildups, but they would be replaced at night.
The army spokesman, Major Neumi Leweni, says the presence of the soldiers will carry on:
"We have erected a tent beside where the checkpoint is and soldiers will be stationed there throughout the day."
Major Leweni says it is important to show that steps forward are being amde and he says the day teim reduction of the checkpoints is part of that
