Pacific shipping company lowers freight rates to Micronesia and other areas

The Pacific shipping company Matson Navigation, is to lower it's fuel surcharge for it's Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and Micronesia services by one point 24 percent by the end of this month.

The reduction which come into effect at the end of this month as the result of the recent decline in bunker fuel prices and will drop the fuel surchage from 18-point 75 percent to 17-point five percent.

For customers, this represents another decrease in shipping costs ranging from $25 to $80 per container.

However a company spokesperson says they will continue to monitor fuel costs and adjust the fuel surcharge accordingly.

But he says while fuel prices remain volatile they're hopeful the current trend will continue.
