Former PNG top cop tipped for Solomons job

Papua New Guinea's former police commissioner, Sam Inguba, is tipped for the Solomon Islands police commissioner's post.

The position in Honiara has been vacant for a month after the Solomon Islands government

declared the incumbent Australian commissioner, Shane Castles, persona

non-grata.

His dismissal follows reports that Mr Castles was immune from prosecution under Solomon Islands laws.

Mr Inguba's possible appointment was on the agenda of last weekend's meetings in Port Moresby between Mr Oti and his PNG colleague Paul Tiensten.

Mr Castles is reportedly seeking legal opinion on a possible lawsuit against the Solomon Islands Government as he believes its actions to ban him is illegal under the island state's constitution.
