Solomons government says it is paying accommodation costs for Julian Moti

The suspended attorney general, Julian Moti, has cost the Solomon Islands tax payers more than 6,500 US dollars during his first two months of his stay.

The figure was revealed by the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in parliament today when answering questions from the opposition leader, Fred Fono.

Mr Moti, who is an Australian, arrived in Solomon Islands on October 10th on a clandestine flight from Papua New Guinea in a bid to evade arrest by Australia on a child sex charge.

Mr Sogavare says the government is obliged to meet Mr Moti's upkeep in the country despite him being suspended.

However, he also told parliament that while Mr Moti is suspended, he gets no pay.

Costs incurred by Mr Moti include outlays for hotel accommodation.
