Police probe gruesome killing of Solomons boy

Australian police are helping investigate the death of a 10-year-old boy whose dismembered body was found in Solomon Islands.

The news agency AAP reports that a forensic expert and a police advisory officer have travelled to Rennell Island to assist Solomons police following the discovery of the body near Nuipani village on Tuesday.

Police say a 23-year-old man has been arrested but a motive for the killing is yet to be established.

The killing occurred while his parents were in Honiara.

The boy's name has not been released.
