American Samoa eyes cable link to create jobs

4:12 pm on 5 February 2007

Governor Togiola Tulafono remains optimistic that by the end of 2007 or beginning of next year, American Samoa will have an undersea fibre optic cable.

The governor says a company is waiting to open a call center in the territory once a fibre optic cable is installed.

He says the call center would initially create 200 to 300 jobs, with the potential to expand to 2000.

Governor Togiola says his administration is making every effort to attract industries which offer salaries that are higher than the current minimum wages.
