Bright future for Fiji mahogany exports

10:37 am on 7 February 2007

Fiji mahogany is in high demand from the Canadian market.

And Fiji representatives in Vancouver are negotiating with industries there, particularly home builders, to try and strike some kind of deal to have supplies of mahogany from Fiji.

Fiji's Consul Designate to Canada, Ashwant Dwivedi told the Fiji Sun that mahogany was in great demand in Canada taking up the lead in local export commodities there at 37 per cent.

Mr Dwivedi says the Fiji High Commission in Canada was working with homebuilders to have mahogany supplied from Fiji.

He says within two weeks, it will be meeting with the British Columbia Home Builders Association trying to see if a deal can be reached with them to export mahogany from Fiji.
