Samoa says all athletes attending South Pacific Games must be vaccinated against typhoid

The head of the medical team for the South Pacific Games in Apia, Dr. Stanley Dean, says no athlete will be permitted into Samoa for the Games unless they are vaccinated.

Dr. Dean who is also general manager of Samoa's National Health Services says the decision has been made to protect Samoa from disease.

He says typhoid is a major concern.

Dr. Dean told the Samoa Observer that all participating countries will be advised to have their athletes vaccinated for typhoid before entering Samoa.

Dr. Dean said no athletes will be permitted to enter Samoa if they are not vaccinated.
