Child in Samoa dies of meningoccal disease

5:02 pm on 16 February 2007

The ministry of health in Samoa says it has confirmation that a two-year-old has died of meningoccal disease and says it is investigating two more deaths that may be due to the disease.

The ministry's clinical director, Lemalu Dr Limbo Fiu, has told the Samoa Observer that it's a matter of concern and parents should be aware of the situation.

Dr Limbo says the two other children who died had shown symptoms consistent with meningoccal disease.

The ministry is awaiting blood test results being done in New Zealand.
