New Zealand gives Fiji Red Cross aid after floods

4:40 pm on 15 February 2007

New Zealand will give Fiji Red Cross 25,000 US dollars to assist relief efforts following major flooding in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

The foreign minister Winston Peters says the New Zealand's assistance will help Fiji Red Cross replenish emergency supplies, which are now seriously depleted after weeks of flooding.

Mr Peters says New Zealand has taken a strong stand against Commodore Frank Bainimarama and other coup perpetrators, but this will not stop New Zealand helping ordinary Fijians in a time of need.
