Solomons police lose two prisoners charged with murder

Police and prison officials in Solomon Islands say two prisoners remanded on murder charges escaped custody while out on compassionate leave.

The Commissioner Prison Services, Barry Apsey says the two men were being escorted to their village near Tetere on the western outskirts of Honiara when they escaped their prison wardens.

He said a official investigation into the incident is being carried out.

Prison and police search parties are in the area looking for the two men.
